I have long been interested in early America, especially the English colonies, most especially the interactions of those colonies with the native Indians. I have two long-term projects underway, both outgrowths of previous work. One will be a monograph on English relations with the Southeastern Indians, based largely on documents I gathered for the two volumes mentioned above. The other will be a book on English territorial claims in North America: an analysis of how English kings and officials justified those claims against European rivals, and how they separately justified such claims against the local Indians.
